How-To turn your Love Affair with Amazon boxes into Stylish StorageOctober 22, 2018
Men have their “man caves” and children have their cubby houses and tree houses but what about us gals?
Well, women everywhere are hopping on board to have their own special spot. A woman’s hideaway, like the Man Cave, where they can escape from their daily stresses. Sounds blissful right?
The idea really took off when women started transforming their backyard sheds into their own girly-getaway areas. And so, The She Shed was born. If you just google “She-Sheds”, hundreds of photos will pop up of women posting their very own “She-Shed” creations. They are as varied, beautiful and unique as the women who create them. So with this inspiration in mind, my girl Orly Shani
and I teamed up on Home and Family
to create our own She Shed.
When building your own She-Shed it’s all about working with the space you have available. You can go big and grand or you can keep it cozy by creating a smaller more intimate space. The shed is your canvas and the material list will be limited by your own imagination and hearts desires. Our shed was only 7×7 (49 Square feet) which isn’t that big but it’s just enough space to get away and relax.
For us, we started with paint and a paint brush. We painted the outside to look shabby chic with dry-brush technique. Well…truth be told, we painted the shed the night before the segment, and due to the cold temps and condensation, when we arrived at work we were met with a shabby-chic job by mother nature! So we embraced it and painted the rest of it to match with a dry-brush technique. Why go against nature? We also added a lantern to the front for additional light. We laid down some fake grass and added some fake flowers in pots to brighten up the space.
Inside the shed we hung fabric curtains to cover up the walls, which we hung with regular ¾” curtain rods. We kept our color canvas neutral, soft and feminine so that It could be modified when needed for any individual. Then we pillaged the house for décor. A gorgeous oversized chair to lounge around and relax on. A beautiful chandelier was added for elegance and light. For when creativity strikes we added an easel to paint, some paint brushes and some crafting supplies. We also added a tea and tea pot, some wine and wine glasses, and of course some flowers. You know, just a few women’s essentials.
The thing is you can customize your own shed and add all of the things you would like to have at your disposal. It can be a reading nook, an art space, a crafters heaven, a musical muse … it’s yours to create and yours to dream. It’s your little safe place to relax and regenerate. To ignite the soul and all those feel good vibes.
So what are you waiting for? Start carving out that special space for yourself! We want to see your She Sheds on Instagram so make sure you @thesoulsistersus #thesoulsisters
