Nothing says effortless style like a good top knot. It's also our favorite go-to hair style for as soon as we get home from any event. Sweats on, bra off, hair up! I mean ... it's how we roll. What we are super in to right now, is the half-up top knot. It's adorable, it still looks like you kind of did your hair but in a messy hair, don't care way! Effortlessly chic. That's what we are all about. What we did notice is that this easy, breezy look is not so easy and breezy to get right. #fail

We turned to our good friend and Celebrity Hair & Make-Up artist Francine Valdivia to demystify the knot and share with us her top three tips to create the perfect half-up top knot at home.

Francine swears it is one of the easiest hairstyle to create. Here are her top tips!

  • Consider the size of of your forehead and how wide your top not section should be. You want to leave enough hair on each side of your face so that you still have fullness and body.
  • Make sure your sections one either side are clean straight lines before putting into a pony tail
  • Don't bring your pony tail too far back. You want the pony tail to remain just above the top of the crown of your head. Think height ladies, not Texas height but up pretty there!
  • Tease the pony tail so that your "knot" will have plenty of fullness
  • Wrap the hair of your pony tail around into a very loose bun and secure in to place with a couple of hair pins
  • Finally, take an wide tooth comb and tease in an upwards direction to give the sides and back some fullness
  •
TIP If you want to jazz this look up just a little, you can add some loose waves to the "down" section of your hair, alternating back and forth with a curling iron.
