We always get so many questions from our friends, family and you guys about our plant based diet. The main three are usually, What CAN we eat? How do we make sure we get protein? Aren’t we hungry all the time?
Well, here’s the thing. Eating a predominately plant based diet is pretty easy. Once you now how. The trick is starting off slow. You don't have to go all in to begin with. Start by making simple changes and do your research.
What can we eat?
I will say that we do allow ourselves fish, but the rest of our diet consists of fruits, legumes, healthy carbs and a lot of vegetables. We don’t eat meat, we don’t consume dairy and we really try to stay away from anything with refined sugars and preservatives. My rule of thumb is that if it comes in a packet and has an expiration date written on the label that is longer than 3 months, it probably ain’t that good for you. We always try to eat fresh, seasonal produce. But we aren’t saints. We have our vices. Like Paigey loves Protein, Choc-chip Walnut Cookies and Coconut Ice-cream. I love bean chips and a good bottle of Pinot Noir.Protein
Protein is one of those important substances that our bodies need. Protein becomes hormones, enzymes and antibodies that help our body function, rebuild and regenerate. Just because we don’t eat meat or dairy doesn’t mean that don’t get the recommended protein in our diets. You just have to know where to look. We get protein from a variety of sources. Protein smoothies, mushrooms, spinach, chickpeas, quinoa and chia seeds. If you want to know more about
meat free protein sources you can check out my

Are we hungry all the time?
The short answer, no. When you are eating the right foods for your body, that nourish you, they sustain you and your cravings actually reduce. We are constantly grazing throughout they day so we never really get hungry. We do still get the occasional cravings, but luckily we have so many delicious healthy recipes to help us feel like we are treating ourselves, while nourishing ourselves.
Here is what a typical day on a plate looks like for us!
Breakfast
Latte with coconut milk
Gluten free bagel with avocado and vegan cream cheese
½ cup of blueberries
Morning Tea
Protein Smoothie or
Green Smoothie
Lunch
Usually a big salad with roasted vegetables and quinoa
Afternoon Tea
Banana with Organic crunchy peanut butter
OR ½ cup Almonds
Peppermint Tea
Dinner
A few of our go-to favs
Vegetable Stew
Stuffed Mushroom with Steamed Vegetables

Every day varies but this is a general day on a plate. We get creative … on our days off when we have more time so we might make protein pancakes for breakfast. I might bake protein muffins for us to snack on and we might visit our favorite restaurant for a vegan burger and sweet potato fries!
